Netwerk Oorlogsbronnen[edit]

Nederlands: Netwerk Oorlogsbronnen (Dutch Network War Collections) is een samenwerkingsverband van Nederlandse kennis- en erfgoedinstellingen met collecties gerelateerd aan WO2. Het Netwerk Oorlogsbronnen (NOB) heeft tot doel eindgebruikers wegwijs te maken in de fysiek verspreide bronnen, en doet dat onder meer via de Collectieportal. Er wordt gebouwd aan een verbeterde digitale toegang tot de Nederlandse collectie over de Tweede Wereldoorlog en de Holocaust, in het toenmalige koninkrijk der Nederlanden. Netwerk Oorlogsbronnen voert projecten uit rond het vergroten van de vindbaarheid en bruikbaarheid van deze bronnen op de vier terreinen: 'wie', 'wat', 'waar' en 'wanneer'. Dat gebeurt altijd met meerdere partners. Netwerk Oorlogsbronnen wordt mogelijk gemaakt door het Vfonds, het ministerie van VWS en het VSBFonds.

English: The Netwerk Oorlogsbronnen (Dutch Network War Collections) is a cooperative effort of Dutch scholarly and heritage organizations related to WWII. The goal of the Netwerk Oorlogsbronnen) is to guide end users through the physically scattered sources on this topic, and it does this via, primarily, the Collectieportal. The network strives for better digital accessibility to the various Dutch collections about the Second World War and the Holocaust in the then-called Kingdom of the Netherlands. The Netwerk Oorlogsbronnen carries out projects with various partners which increase the findability and usefulness of these sources utilizing the four terms “who”, “what”, “where” and “when”. The Netwerk Oorlogsbronnen has been made possible by Vfonds, the Ministry of Health, Welfare, and Sport, and VSBFonds.

WO2 Open Data Depot[edit]

Nederlands: Door middel van het WO2 Open Data Depot project van Netwerk Oorlogsbronnen worden meer kwalitatief hoogwaardige digitale bronnen rondom het thema Tweede Wereldoorlog in Nederland voor een breed publiek beschikbaar gesteld. Zowel publiek domein, als CC BY en CC BY-SA beelden zijn verzameld. Daarnaast werden in samenwerking met verschillende erfgoedinstellingen beelden vrijgegeven onder een CC BY-SA licentie. Het gaat hier vooral om collectiefotografie, dus afbeeldingen van objecten. Zo zijn er licentieverklaringen getekend door het Bevrijdingsmuseum Zeeland en het Museon.

In het project wordt nauw samengewerkt met Wikimedia Nederland, Nederlands Instituut voor Beeld en Geluid, Stichting Musea en Herinneringscentra 40-45, Nationaal Comité 4 en 5 mei, Kennisland en Liberation Route Europe. Het project wordt ondersteund door het Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds.

English: Thanks to Netwerk Oorlogsbronnen’s WWII Open Data Project, more and more high-quality digital information sources related to the Second World War are being rendered accessible to the general public. The collection includes public domain, CC BY and CC BY-SA images. Additionally, various cooperating heritage institutions have released images under a CC BY-SA license. These are primarily collection-photos, meaning pictures of objects. The conditions for use were formulated by the Bevrijdingsmuseum Zeeland (Zeeland Liberation Museum) and Museon.

The project involves close cooperation between met Wikimedia Nederland, Nederlands Instituut voor Beeld en Geluid, Stichting Musea en Herinneringscentra 40-45, Nationaal Comité 4 en 5 mei, Kennisland and Liberation Route Europe and is supported by the Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds.

Collectie Menno Huizinga[edit]

Nederlands: De collectie Menno Huizinga van het NIOD Instituut voor Oorlogs-, Holocaust- en Genocidestudies is de meest omvangrijke vrijgegeven collectie binnen het WO2 Open Data Depot. Het auteursrecht van deze bijzondere oorlogsfoto's is per 1 januari 2018 vervallen, waardoor de foto's in het publiek domein zijn beland. Menno Huizinga (1907 - 1947) was een vakfotograaf, die o.a bedrijfs- en reclamefotografie bedreef. Zijn werk vertoont veel overeenkomsten met de nieuwe zakelijke fotografie uit de jaren twintig en dertig. Al in 1941 begon Huizinga het leven in bezet Den Haag te fotograferen. In 1942 fotografeerde hij de aanleg voor de Atlantikwall en de afbraak die daarvoor nodig was. In 1943 legde hij het kappen van het Haagse Bos vast en in 1944 Dolle Dinsdag. Vervolgens fotografeerde Huizinga in de winter de jacht op alles wat brandbaar was. Hij verborg zijn camera, een Leica, in een kaaskistje waar een gaatje in gezaagd is. Tot slot fotografeerde hij de bevrijding, de intochten en de feesten. In totaal zijn 779 foto's van het dagelijks leven in Den Haag door de lens van Huizinga uit de collectie van het NIOD Instituut voor Oorlogs-, Holocaust- en Genocidestudies toegevoegd aan Wikimedia Commons. Deze zijn ook als volledige collectie te vinden in de categorie Photographs by Menno Huizinga.

English: The Menno Huizinga Collection at (NIOD Instituut voor Oorlogs-, Holocaust- en Genocidestudies is the most extensive freely-accessible collection in the WWII Open Data Depot. The copyright on these remarkable wartime images lapsed on 1 January, 2018, releasing these pictures into the public domain. Menno Huizinga (1907 - 1947) was a career photographer who worked in (among other subjects) business and advertising photography. His work displays many similarities with the new business photography of the 20’s and 30’s. As early as 1941, Huizinga was already busy photographing daily life in the Hague under the occupation. In 1942 he photographed the building of the Atlantic Wall Atlantic Wall and the demolition necessary to get started on it. In 1943, he recorded the felling of the Haagse Forest, and in 1944, Dolle Dinsdag. Thereafter, in winter, Huizinga photographed the desperate search for anything and everything flammable. He hid his Leica camera in a cheese box with a hole cut out for the lens. Finally, he photographed the Liberation: the arrival of the troops and the celebrations. In total, 779 of Huizinga’s photos of life in the Hague from NIOD’s collection have been added to Wikimedia Commons. They can also be viewed as a complete collection in the category Photographs by Menno Huizinga.

Collectie Fotodienst der NSB[edit]

Nederlands: Een groot deel van de collectie van de Fotodienst der NSB van het NIOD Instituut voor Oorlogs-, Holocaust- en Genocidestudies is als publiek domein bestempeld door het NIOD. Het gaat om foto's waarvan geen specifieke fotograaf bekend is, en foto's van een drietal fotografen: Otto, Cino en Swart. De foto's zijn duidelijk vanuit een propagandistische uitgangspunt gemaakt. Toch biedt de collectie ook een kijkje in het dagelijks leven ten tijde van de Tweede Wereldoorlog, weliswaar door het oog van de NSB fotografen. Er zijn een aantal grote thema's terug te vinden in de collectie, zoals het propagandaoffensief De strijd om Amsterdam, de SS-Schule Avegoor en de Jeugdstorm. Een selectie van bijna 600 foto's is geüpload naar Wikimedia Commons. Deze zijn ook te vinden in de categorie Images from Fotodienst der NSB.

English: A large portion of the NSB Photo Service images in the collection at the NIOD Instituut voor Oorlogs-, Holocaust- en Genocidestudies has been put into the public domain by NIOD itself. These are photos for which no specific photographer could be traced, and photos by three individuals: Otto, Cino and Swart. These photos were clearly created as propaganda material. That said, they do provide a glimpse into daily life during the Second World War, albeit through the eyes of National-Socialist photographers. A number of prevailing themes can be seen in the collection, such as the propaganda offensive The Fight for Amsterdam, the SS-Schule Avegoor, and the National Youth Storm. A selection of nearly 600 photos has been uploaded to Wikimedia Commons. These can also be found under the category Images from Fotodienst der NSB.

Collectie Filmdienst der NSB[edit]

Naast de foto's van de Fotodienst der NSB zijn ook NSB propaganda films toegevoegd. Het Nederlands Instituut voor Beeld en Geluid heeft in samenwerking met Netwerk Oorlogsbronnen de collectie van 171 films van de Filmdienst der NSB als publiek domein bestempeld. De films zijn ruim 70 jaar geleden voor het eerst gepubliceerd. Het gaat om 'geconfisqueerd oorlogsmateriaal', waarvan het auteursrecht in 1944 aan de staat is vervallen na de ontbinding van de NSB via het Besluit ontbinding landverraderlijke organisaties. Hierdoor kwamen de films in het RVD filmarchief terecht en vervolgens bij het Nederlands Instituut voor Beeld en Geluid. De films beslaan voornamelijk de periode 1941-1944 en tonen het NSB ideaalbeeld van discipline, tucht en het volksbelang. Een deel is bovendien in de hoogste kwaliteit gescand. English: In addition to the photos taken by the Fotodienst der NSB, propaganda films have also been added. The Nederlands Instituut voor Beeld en Geluid has, in cooperation with Netwerk Oorlogsbronnen, entered the 171 films of the NSB Film Service into the public domain. These films were first published around 70 years ago and comprise “confiscated war material”, the copyright for which fell into the hands of the state in 1944 when the NSB was disbanded under the Besluit ontbinding landverraderlijke organisaties (Decision to Dismantle Traitorous Organizations). In this way the films found their way to the RVD (Public Relations Department) film archive and later the Nederlands Instituut voor Beeld en Geluid. The films cover primarily the period 1941-1944 and depict the NSB’s idealized image of discipline, order, and national loyalty. Some of the material has been scanned at the highest possible quality.
